Results from the autumn Business Outlook Survey indicate that business sentiment improved slightly, but regional differences are more pronounced. Positive views in Central Canada contrast with widespread weakness in the Prairies.

For household lending, mortgage conditions ease this quarter while non-mortgage lending conditions tightened. Overall business lending conditions were unchanged, with a slight tightening in non-price conditions and unchanged price conditions.

Canada’s most important payment clearing and settlement systems now have a resolution regime. As resolution authority, the Bank of Canada has new powers to protect the stability of the Canadian financial system in the unlikely event an FMI fails.

The Bank updated its forecast for real economic growth to 1.3 percent this year, 1.9 percent next year and 2.0 percent in 2021.

For household lending, mortgage conditions eased, while non-mortgage lending conditions remained unchanged. Overall business lending conditions eased slightly, driven mainly by small and commercial businesses outside the Prairies as well as corporates.
