Monetary policy is working to reduce price pressures in the Canadian economy. Core inflation is expected to ease gradually, while the path of CPI inflation will be bumpy. Inflation returns sustainably to the 2% target in the second half of 2025.

Bank of Canada lowers key policy interest rate by 1/4 percentage point to 4 per cent

The Bank of Canada today announced that it is lowering its target for the overnight rate* by one-quarter of one percentage point to 4 per cent. The operating band for the overnight rate is correspondingly lowered, and the Bank Rate is now 4 1/4 per cent. With today's action, the total reduction in interest rates by the Bank this year amounts to 1 3/4 percentage points.

The Role of Corporate Saving over the Business Cycle: Shock Absorber or Amplifier?

We document countercyclical corporate saving behavior with the degree of countercyclicality varying nonmonotonically with firm size. We then develop a dynamic stochastic general equilibrium model with heterogeneous firms to explain the pattern and study its implications for business cycles.
