Engaging with the research community

Collaborating with the research community enriches our understanding and sharpens our policy thinking by bringing in diverse perspectives and advanced research methodologies.

Fostering collaboration

A dynamic exchange of ideas with external experts is a vital component of our daily work. By working with leading researchers, we can test new theories and challenge conventional thinking.

  • Visiting Scholar Program: This program provides outstanding scholars with an opportunity to directly work with us.
  • Conferences and workshops: We regularly organise conferences and workshops to foster intellectual exchange with the academic community, policymakers and market participants.
  • External academic consultants: We collaborate with notable experts from outside the Bank to explore unique data sets.

Supporting academic research

We are dedicated to promoting growth and innovation in the research community. As part of this commitment, we provide opportunities for students and experienced researchers. This support extends to projects and individuals whose work aligns with and helps achieve our core mandate.

  • Research paper awards: Promotes high-quality research in the subject areas relevant for the Bank’s mandate.
  • Scholarship awards: Assists students with disabilities and Indigenous students in furthering their education and to encourage them to take an interest in the work performed by the Bank.
  • Fellowship Program: Fosters excellence in research in Canada and develops partnerships with experts outside the Bank in areas important to its mandate.
  • The Governor’s Challenge: Simulates the monetary policy decision-making process by putting students in the role of advisor to the Bank’s Governing Council.
