Bio
Shelley Williams was appointed to the Bank of Canada’s Board of Directors in January 2023.
Born on Vancouver Island, Ms. Williams graduated from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. A KPMG alumna, she obtained her Chartered Professional Accountant designation in 1995, and her FCPA in 2026. She has also held the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors since 2009.
Ms. Williams has 30 years’ experience in corporate finance, risk management and capital markets. She has held senior positions at several large multinational public companies, including Vice President Treasurer at Finning International, and Corporate Treasurer at Fletcher Challenge Canada.
Ms. Williams also has significant governance experience at both public and private sector organizations. She has helped guide strategic, digital and cultural transformations in multiple industries and has helped several organizations mature their governance and reporting practices. Currently, she is serving as Audit Committee Chair on the boards of Boston Pizza Royalties Income Fund and Technical Safety BC. She has recently served on the boards of Concentra Bank (doing business as Wyth Financial) and BC Life & Casualty Company, where she chaired several committees including HR & Compensation, Audit & Finance, and Risk. Previously, Ms. Williams served as Chair of the Douglas College Board, Vice Chair of HFN LNG Development Corporation, and as an Independent Commissioner at the BC Securities Commission.
An active member in her community, Ms. Williams has chaired not-for-profit boards and is currently volunteering as an examiner and mentor for the Institute of Corporate Directors.
