Bio

Katherine Murray was appointed Managing Director of the Human Resources (HR) Department in January 2024. In this capacity, she is responsible for providing Bank of Canada employees and pensioners with quality HR services from the point of hire and throughout their careers and changing needs. She leads the Bank’s people strategy and works closely with the other members of executive leadership to build and maintain a diverse and talented workforce that is engaged, skilled and committed to delivering on the Bank’s mandates.

Ms. Murray joined the Bank as the Deputy Managing Director of Human Resources in June 2014. In that role, she oversaw the Bank’s strategic HR talent programs and services, including recruitment; learning and development; equity, diversity and inclusion; wellness; succession planning; employee and labour relations; employee engagement and change management; policy development and monitoring; and HR business partnerships.

Before joining the Bank, Ms. Murray held increasingly senior leadership positions at Export Development Canada over a nine-year period, with her last position as Director of Organization Development and Talent Management. Prior to that, she held senior HR positions at the Conference Board of Canada and Nortel Networks in learning and leadership development.

Born in Toronto, Ms. Murray is a Certified Human Resources Leader. She holds an honours bachelor of arts degree in English literature from Queen’s University and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Ottawa.
