
Bio
Anne Butler was appointed Managing Director of the Supervision department in June 2025. In this capacity, she leads the Bank’s teams responsible for supervising payment service providers and overseeing critical financial market infrastructure.
As a senior financial services executive, Anne has over 25 years experience leading diverse teams, from legal and compliance to communications, human resources and industry relations. She spent much of her career as a senior executive at financial institutions supporting management teams and the board of directors and overseeing legal and compliance teams. She has also served as a member of the executive leadership team at Canada’s national payments system operator (Payments Canada) and as head of legal and compliance at a Canadian financial institution with a thriving payments business and deep connections into the fintech marketplace.
Anne is a passionate believer in giving back to the community. She currently serves on the board of directors of the Canadian Internet Regulatory Authority (CIRA) and the YMCA/YWCA National Capital Region.
A lawyer by profession, Anne holds an LL.B from Queen’s University, Faculty of Law and an ICD.D designation, granted by the Institute of Corporate Directors in 2020.
