Governor's Award Additional Information
Governor's Award recipients are invited to join the Fellowship Award recipients to visit the Bank's head office in Ottawa each year of their term for a "Learning Exchange," during which they will have an opportunity to:
- present their research findings
- meet with Bank staff to discuss issues of mutual interest
- confer on future directions for their research
- attend a dinner in their honour
For publicity purposes, Governor's Award recipients grant permission to the Bank of Canada to publicly communicate their names and qualifications.
The Bank does not retain or claim ownership of, or exploitation rights to, intellectual property developed by the recipients. However, recipients are required to cite the Bank as a source of funding in any relevant publication that appears during the two-year award term or resulting from work done during the term of the award.
Change of status
The recipient must notify the Bank of a change of status regarding his or her affiliation with the university.
Leave of absence
With the agreement of the university concerned, recipients would continue to be eligible during a paid sabbatical year.
The award may be discontinued at any time during the two-year term of the program in the event that the recipient no longer works at a Canadian university.
The award may be suspended during a recipient's unpaid leave of absence and resumed upon the recipient's return to a tenured or tenure track faculty position at a Canadian university. However, if the recipient is in his/her final year of Fellowship, the Fellowship cannot be resumed and will be discontinued. In the event the recipient is on an unpaid leave of absence, the recipient must confirm to the Bank by the end of January if he/she is returning to the university. If the Fellowship is discontinued or suspended (maximum a year), the Bank may ask for repayment of some or all of the unused funds.
The Bank of Canada endorses the policies adopted by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) with respect to integrity in research and scholarship and non-discrimination. The Bank may discontinue a Governor's Award at any time if it decides that a recipient has contravened the policies of the SSHRC. These policies may be viewed at the SSHRC website.
