Sylvain Chalut was appointed Managing Director of the Bank’s Information Technology Services (ITS) Department in September 2011. He is responsible for leading the Bank’s IT strategy and positioning its architecture and systems to respond to evolving business needs. In collaboration with other departments, he ensures the effective operation of IT systems and the development of technological solutions adapted to the strategic and tactical goals of the Bank.
Since joining the Bank, Mr. Chalut has led his department through the implementation of an Enhanced Business Continuity Plan with the construction of two new data centres. The completion of this major project brings a high degree of resilience to the infrastructure of the Bank, which supports daily transactions worth an average of more than $150 billion. Mr. Chalut also worked closely with the Bank’s key internal stakeholders on a project that improved processes and technologies supporting the Bank’s domestic market operations. Mr. Chalut is currently preparing the Bank’s new Head Office technology for the return of its employees in 2017 after major renovations.
Mr. Chalut has over 25 years of senior management and professional experience in information technology and telecommunications in the private and public sectors. Before joining the Bank, he was Chief Information Officer of the University of Ottawa and Director of Business Relationship Management at Bombardier Aerospace.
Mr. Chalut was born in Montréal, Quebec. He holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (with a specialization in software engineering) from the École polytechnique (Montréal) and a bachelor of science from the Université de Montréal. He is a member of both the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec and the Ordre des administrateurs agréés du Québec; he is also a certified Project Management Professional. Mr. Chalut is a member of the Board of Directors of the Ottawa Heart Institute and La Cité Collégiale.
