Students and Recent Grads

We will be accepting applications for the 2013-14 University Recruitment Campaign next September. Please check during that period for opportunities.

Please check Career Opportunities for current openings and follow the prompts to submit your application. Remember: you must include your resumé for your application to be considered. Selected candidates will be invited to an interview. Please prepare any questions you may have. If you're selected, an offer outlining all aspects of job responsibilities, compensation and benefits will be extended to you.

Summer Employment

Every year the bank recruits a number of students for full-time summer employment that generally lasts from May to late August. A wide variety of positions are available that provide challenging, relevant work experiences that are meaningful to the mission of the Bank.

Next Winter, we will be accepting applications for the 2013 Summer Employment Campaign. Please check during period for opportunities.

Co-op Programs

The Bank regularly participates in Co-Op programs with leading universities and colleges from across the country. Placements generally last from 4 to 8 months and are eligible for credit equivalencies. Please check with your university or college for complete details.

Bachelor's in Economics and Finance

Every year the Bank visits several universities to launch its recruitment campaign and provide students with more information about our work. It is the ideal opportunity to meet with economists and analysts and learn more about the Bank and its mission. Please contact your career centre to find out more.

These positions are for a one-year term with the possibility of extension or permanent placement.

Interview

Virtual interviews will be held from 5 to 7 November.

Two economists will conduct the interview, which should last for about 60 minutes. It is a great opportunity to demonstrate your technical expertise, behavioural traits and get a feel for the Bank's requirements. Your technical expertise and independent analytical thinking will be evaluated through subjective, objective and situation-based scenarios.

You will receive an email with details on how to prepare for your telephone interview.

Offer

The majority of employment offers are extended starting in mid-November, and offers may continue through several months. All offers are contingent upon security verification, reference checks and completion of your degree.

Master's in Economics and Finance

Interview

First-round virtual interviews are held during the first three weeks of November and generally last 45 minutes. This is your opportunity to demonstrate your technical expertise and your ability to work as part of a committed team.

If your application is selected, you will be contacted for a second interview at the Bank. You will receive an email with details on how to prepare for your interview. Second-round interviews generally occur in January.

Your visit to the Bank begins with a meet-and-greet session that is often attended by senior executives, including the Governor. During the course of your day you will also have a short compensation meeting where salary scales, benefits, relocation assistance and other related topics are outlined.

You will have one or more 50-minute interviews (depending on the number of departments interested in your candidacy) and a written test, all of which are designed to ascertain your technical expertise, behavioural traits and independent analytical thinking. Most of our interviewees find the day exciting and challenging. Your travel expenses and accommodations will be covered by the Bank.

Offer

The majority of employment offers are extended in mid-January, and offers may continue through several months. All offers are contingent upon security verification, reference checks and completion of your degree.

The Bank of Canada provides relocation assistance to ease the transition to a new work location, where relocation is required to meet operational needs, talent acquisition, or talent development goals.

PhD in Economics and Finance

Interview

Conference Interviews are generally held with one or two Bank economists and are informal in nature. The goal is for you to get to know each other, discuss research and related issues and get a feeling for personal interests and professional affinities.

If your application is selected, you will be contacted by phone and invited to an interview at the Bank.

Bank Interviews usually occur between November and May.

Your full day at the Bank begins with a compensation meeting, where salary scales, benefits, immigration support, relocation allocations and other related topics are outlined.

Next, you will have the opportunity to present your Job Market Paper to a group of 15+ leading Bank economists to demonstrate how your research could benefit the Bank. The entire presentation should last approximately 90 minutes, including Q & A. Following your presentation, you will enjoy a friendly lunch in the company of several Bank staff.

After lunch, there will be a series of informal, 30-minute interviews with economists and analysts from departments related to your area of expertise. At some point in the afternoon, you will have the opportunity to meet with members of the senior executive team.

The goal of your day with us is to provide an informal opportunity for collegial exchange and discussions within an atmosphere of shared professional interest.

Your travel arrangements and accommodations will be covered by the Bank. We will also provide all necessary support for your temporary visa applications, as required.

Please allow a minimum of two nights and one day for your stay.

Throughout the process you will always have the opportunity to speak with a member of our HR team or someone within your targeted department.

Employment offers can be extended as early as November, and offers may continue to be made through several months. All offers are contingent upon security verification, reference checks and completion of your degree.

The Bank will help qualified PhD candidates from other countries to obtain required immigration permits or documentation.
