Philip Deck was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Bank of Canada in October 2006.
Born in Toronto, Ontario, Mr. Deck graduated from Queen’s University with an honours bachelor’s degree in economics in 1985.
Mr. Deck is the Chief Executive Officer of Extuple Inc., a technology finance company. He served as Chairman and/or as Chief Executive Officer of MKS Inc., a publicly traded enterprise software company based in Waterloo, Ontario, from 2001 to its acquisition in 2011. From 1993 to 1999, he was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Certicom Corp., a publicly traded cryptographic technology company. A former managing partner with HSD Partners (a merchant banking company), he also worked in the venture capital and large capitalization investment industry. Mr. Deck is the President of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Opera Company and has been a director since 1995. He also serves on the boards of 20-20 Technologies, the C. D. Howe Institute and Communitech, a Waterloo-based technology incubator.
